Label it so you'll know

Ice cream with a little cinnamon & sweetener mix is pretty nice.

Occasionally I'll get a container of low carb vanilla and sprinkle a little cinnamon & sweetener on it.

I ran out of pepper one day, so I saved the container, cleaned it out and put in equal parts cinnamon & my favorite "healthy" artificial sweetener to make it easier to sprinkle.

It made making ice cream a lot easier.  On occasion.

It took me a while to figure out I needed to label the box that had my ice cream topping in it so I didn't get it mixed up with the new box of pepper.

Before that, sometimes I'd add cinnamon and sweeter to things I wanted to put pepper on.  And vice versa, a few times I put a healthy amount of pepper on my ice cream a few times.

Eventually, I just got some paper, wrote "sweetener + cinnamon" on it and put it in the cabinet.

And then I realized I probably needed to label both sides of the box.

Why? Because I kept getting them mixed up when I didn't see the newly labeled side.

So NOW, I have it labeled on both sides.  So far, so good.

_______________

God and "church" is that way for me these days.

After a long period of deconstruction and rebuilding, the "what do you rebuild?" part is still challenging at times.

To use the pepper shaker and cinnamon/sweetener idea as an illustration, there are times when I feel the need to reach for that box with sweet stuff in it and I grab the pepper, and vice versa.

Sometimes when I "go" to acknowledge and interact with God, on purpose, I grab the wrong box.

It's so easy since they look the same.

For a long time they were the same.

For me, even though they may come in similar containers, they aren't the same thing.

It makes me wonder if I need to get rid of the old pepper container and get something different that is obviously just for the sweetener and cinnamon.

Jesus said that no one pours new wine into old wineskins because the way the winemaking process works is, you put new wine into new wineskins and they stretch with the fermenting process and are a part of a new thing.  If you put new wine into old wineskins, they'll break open and it'll all spill out.

Anyway...just thinking out loud.

Peace and goodwill.
