Short cuts and snake oil

 


Just recently a social media ad series has been promoting something they're selling so you too can learn "how to heal the sick in 10 seconds just like Jesus did".  

And the subtitle on the promo on this fine piece is "How we went from 25% healed to 90% instantly healed and you can too."

Most likely, this is from someone who is just trying to make a quick profit off of desperate, hopeful people who are easily tricked into buying an easy way to get some kind of desired result.

It's not real, in case you are tempted to try it - the "healing like Jesus part" that is.  The making a quick profit probably IS real and you could come up with a slick cover and way to make money too, using AI.

A lot of things are "sold" to people using hopes, needs, desperation, desires, etc.  

The nice thing about God is that he's not charging for any of what he offers.

Need grace?  You have it without end, always.

Need mercy?  His mercy triumphs over judgment, always.

Need love?  He is love and he is *for* you.

Need forgiveness?  He's not counting sins against us.

Need peace?  Take his way of seeing life and you'll have all you need.

Nothing God provides costs you anything that he hasn't already paid.  And he has paid.

You might hear some people offer things "from God" that he hasn't actually offered.

Just watch people and you'll know by their real results what is real and what isn't.

If you are told you need to go to a certain building or join an organization, etc to get something from God, it's not from God and it's certainly not something he set up.

What he offers is much better and more real than anything else.

Receive it and enjoy.

  Some thoughts on what's after this life. First , when you die, you do not become an angel. From scripture, we will be like Jesus. Our bodies will be like his after he was raised from the dead. 1 Cor. 15 describes it pretty well. Paul, one of the Bible writers, says we'll actually judge angels! So, while I understand the sentiment, becoming an angel might actually be a demotion from what he says we're gonna be like. Second , you'll know people and they'll know you. A lot of people fear "getting there" and finding out that someone they love didn't make it and so they say, "Well the Bible says there'll be no tears in heaven" so we probably will be in some kind of trance state so we can't know who is or isn't there so as to prevent tears and sadness. What I wish more church people knew

What I wish more church people knew and believed. 1.  God saved you by grace.  It's a done deal.  Nothing you do, good or bad, made that happen or changes anything going forward.  He loves you as much right now as he will 10,000 years from now.  Your behavior doesn't change his heart for you or your place with him. 2.  Your feelings are easily manipulated and sometimes you'll "feel saved" or "feel close to God" or vice versa.  Feelings do not change how God sees you.  That kind of language is from religious environments and isn't something from God.  We walk by faith, not by feelings because feelings can lie to us. 3.  God is with you each and every moment of life and there's nothing more special about Sunday in terms of his being close to you, walking with you, or anything like that.  His Spirit lives within you and, since sin is no longer counted against us anymore, his Spirit never leaves you. 4.  "Worship services" or churc...

Two years since the big shift

I created the logo above after a staff member that preceded me in leaving had been “released”.  He was the third person before me to be “released” in those few years before I chose to leave. Those last few years among the almost 35 that I “was there” were among the most challenging. Challenging for those among the leaders who remained to make some strong decisions about where things were going.  Challenging for me as I was wondering less about the direction of that particular congregation and more about what was real and worth investing into. If you’re not drinking the Kool-aid of a particular part of a church group or if you don’t match up to the favored persons or personality slants of certain collections of individuals, you’re usually set up with a “performance improvement plan” and/or slated to be given the option to “step down” in exchange for some kind of sweet deal/severance package.
